Overview
Calculate theoretical pipe mass from actual outside diameter, wall thickness, length and material density.
Formula
ID = OD − 2t Ametal = π(OD² − ID²)/4 Mass per meter = Ametal × ρ Mass = Ametal × L × ρ Dimensions: m · Density: kg/m³ · Mass: kg

How to use
- Check the units, enter the required values and select the available calculation options.
- Results update immediately. Correct any highlighted input before using the result.
- Choose display precision, copy the result or share the current inputs. Reset restores the example values.
Engineering notes
- Use actual outside diameter, not the DN or NPS designation. Verify wall thickness against the applicable dimensional standard and schedule.
- Presets are nominal densities. Manufacturing tolerance, coating, lining, corrosion, fluid and fittings are excluded. Use the specified density for your material and temperature.
Frequently asked questions FAQ
Does total weight include fluid and flanges?
No. This is the theoretical mass of a uniform straight pipe wall. Add internal volume × fluid density, flanges, valves and insulation separately.
Does display precision change the calculation?
No. Rounding is applied only to displayed results, not intermediate calculations. Small nonzero values use scientific notation. Consider the precision of the original measurements when interpreting results.
